RW Flying Qualities Flight Test

This course provides an overview of rotary wing aircraft flying qualities flight testing. It covers stability and control, including helicopter static and dynamic stability (longitudinal, lateral, and directional), low-speed regime, aerodynamic derivatives, and rotor dynamics. Helicopter vibration principles and sources are also discussed. Specific lectures address flight controls mechanical characteristics (FCMC), autorotation, and helicopter category A operations. The course focuses on flight test methods, test planning, data acquisition, and analysis. It includes theoretical lectures and tutorials/workshops using simulation tools. Participants are introduced to civil specifications for rotary wing aircraft (CS27/29), military specifications, particularly ADS-33E-PRF, and compliance methods for new or modified aircraft testing. The course includes a 30-minute Welcome and Overview session and a 1-hour Q&A and Debrief session with an instructor.
